TNI Bureau: The Government of Odisha is set to introduce the sale of liquor in tetra packs as part of its revised excise policy, marking a significant shift from conventional glass bottle packaging. The proposal aims to promote safer, lighter, and more environmentally sustainable alternatives in the state’s liquor retail system.
Officials have indicated that tetra packs, commonly used for beverages like juices and milk, are less prone to breakage, easier to transport, and simpler to dispose of compared to glass bottles. The move is expected to reduce glass waste, minimize handling risks, and improve overall supply chain efficiency.
The government believes the initiative will not only enhance consumer convenience but also align with broader environmental goals by encouraging recyclable and less hazardous packaging. Detailed guidelines regarding rollout and product categories are expected to be issued in due course as part of the updated excise framework.
