Odisha Lawyers go on Strike, protest Attack on Colleague
TNI Bureau: The lawyers in Odisha have gone on a strike, protesting against the attack on their colleague Iswar Das in Cuttack on November 23. Although two people were arrested in connection with this case a few days ago, the lawyers have condemned the “police inaction”, saying many accused are still at large.
The decision to go on a two-day strike (Monday and Tuesday), was taken at the High Court Bar Association meeting on Sunday. Many Bar Associations across the state had taken part in the meeting.
Mr. Iswar Chandra Das and his son were dragged from their house and brutally attacked by some miscreants on the night of November 23. They hail from Chahata Nagar in Cuttack. Mr. Das sustained injuries in his right eye, while his son got a head injury.
Sibendra Behera (28) and his close aide Hridaya Ranjan Muduli (32) of the Bidanasi area, were arrested for the attack. Many other people are still absconding.
