The Odisha Government has stepped in to augment the relief operations in Cyclone and flood-affected Ganjam district by procuring 3,000 litres of kerosene from the open market at Rs 72.46 per litre and supplying those to that district.
The kerosene was bought at Rs 24 crore from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) and stored at the depots of Paradip, Jatni and Berhampur. From these depots, the kerosene is being sent to various parts of Ganjam with the help of tankers.
The 3,000 litres of kerosene will benefit at least 7.75 lakh affected people in Ganjam district. The Krushnaprasad block in Ganjam district will get the power supply only after 20 days or so. Thus, this block will get kerosene in two phases. In the first phase on October 24, 13,800 families of the block, were supplied 55.2 kilo litre kerosene at 4 litre per family.
In the second phase on October 2, at least 8,200 families got 32.8 kilo litres of kerosene. The state government has spent Rs 63.76 lakh towards the supply of kerosene.
