Odisha Governor Inaugurates Mayurbhanj Festival in Bhubaneswar

TNI Bureau: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati inaugurated the three-day Mayurbhanj Festival at Utkal Mandap in Bhubaneswar, saying that culture and development are not opposing forces but complementary to each other.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that festivals like Mayurbhanj Utsav act as a strong bridge between the past and the future by preserving cultural roots while promoting balanced and inclusive development. He noted that in a rapidly changing world driven by technology, such cultural platforms are more important than ever, as they remind people of their identity, heritage and values.

Describing the festival as a celebration of unity in diversity, strength in tradition and continuity of heritage, the Governor said Mayurbhanj Utsav reflects the spirit, energy and consciousness of Odisha. He added that the festival brings the people of Mayurbhanj together in the state capital, strengthens cultural bonds and promotes social exchange while showcasing the district’s rich heritage.

Highlighting Mayurbhanj’s legacy, the Governor called the district a priceless gem of Odisha, marked by a harmonious blend of nature and culture. He referred to the Similipal Biosphere Reserve, the heritage of the Bhanja dynasty and Mayurbhanj’s significant contribution to the making of modern Odisha. He also spoke about the district’s vibrant tribal culture, particularly of the Santhal and Ho communities, the world-renowned Mayurbhanj Chhau dance, rich handicrafts, unique cuisine and the famous Baripada Rath Yatra.

The Governor further said that Mayurbhanj has produced national leadership, citing the inspiring life journey of President Droupadi Murmu as a source of pride for the district and the state.

Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Housing and Urban Development and Public Enterprises Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, and Mayurbhanj MP Naba Charan Majhi also addressed the gathering.

Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Rajanikanta Biswal, General Secretary of the Mayurbhanj Cultural Association, proposed the vote of thanks.
