TNI Bureau: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting at the DGP Camp Office in Bhubaneswar to assess the overall law and order situation in the state and strengthen policing measures across districts.
The meeting focused on crime control, improving police-public coordination, and making policing more active, responsive, and people-centric. Senior police officials, including district SPs and Range IGs/DIGs, participated in the review.
During the meeting, the DGP directed all district police units to adopt effective and result-oriented measures to curb crime while simultaneously strengthening public trust and coordination with the police administration.
Emphasising the importance of emergency response systems, the DGP instructed that all personnel deployed in Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) be provided with professional and behavioural training. He said such training would improve their efficiency and response capability in handling sensitive and emergency situations.
In a major administrative direction, the DGP ordered all police stations across the state to conduct a mandatory “briefing parade” daily before 9 AM. He also stressed regular monitoring to ensure strict compliance with the instruction.
The briefing sessions, he said, should include discussions on local law and order situations, crime-prone areas, movements of criminals, and progress in ongoing investigations. According to the DGP, such exercises would strengthen coordination, preparedness, and quick response mechanisms at the police station level.
The DGP further directed police officials to intensify action for strengthening law and order in the state. He stressed the speedy execution of pending Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs), stringent action under the National Security Act (NSA) against habitual and notorious criminals, and aggressive raids to curb narcotics trade.
He also instructed officials to intensify beat patrolling in all police station areas and increase regular highway patrolling to prevent criminal and anti-social activities. Special drives were also ordered to check misconduct and crime-prone incidents.
In cases related to serious crimes such as murder, the DGP directed senior police officers to closely monitor investigations to ensure prompt arrests, strong investigations, and timely conviction of accused persons under the law.
The Odisha Police chief further stated that within the next 15 days, the public should visibly experience and recognise positive policing, prompt police action, and citizen-oriented service delivery across the state.
Among those present at the meeting were Crime Branch DGP Binaytosh Mishra, Intelligence Director R. P. Koche, and Additional DGP (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar.
Earlier in the day, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania also held a separate review meeting with all police station officers under the Commissionerate Police Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. Discussions were held on law and order management, crime prevention measures, fair and speedy investigation of sensitive cases, public-friendly policing, and better traffic management in the Commissionerate area.
Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh and Additional Commissioner of Police Narasimha Bhol were also present during the Commissionerate-level review meeting.
