Odia Wikipedia Loses Veteran Contributor Dr. Subas Chandra Rout

TNI Bureau: The Odia Wikimedia community is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated contributors, Dr. Subas Chandra Rout, who passed away after a brief illness at his home. His death has left a deep void in the community he served with commitment for more than a decade.

Dr. Rout began contributing to Odia Wikipedia at the age of 68, reflecting his strong passion for learning and sharing knowledge. Over the course of 14 years, he created more than 3,500 articles, including over 2,500 on medical topics, providing Odia-speaking readers with reliable health and medical information in their mother tongue.

Apart from writing extensively, Dr. Rout actively participated in initiatives of the Wikimedia movement, particularly Wiki Project Med, a global effort aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of medical knowledge on Wikipedia. He emerged as one of the leading contributors to the project in South Asia.

In recognition of his dedication to medical content, Dr. Rout received “The Cure Award” from the WikiMed Foundation for eight consecutive years, one of the highest recognitions for medical contributors in the Wikimedia community.

Members of the Odia Wikimedia community have expressed deep condolences to Dr. Rout’s family and friends. His thousands of articles will continue to educate and inform readers, ensuring that his contribution to knowledge sharing and the promotion of the Odia language remains enduring.
