Muzaffarnagar Riots: BJP MLA Suresh Rana Arrested

Soon after the Uttar Pradesh Assembly was adjourned sine die, the UP Police finally acted and arrested BJP MLA Suresh Rana for allegedly inciting violence to cause riots in Muzaffarnagar area. Suresh Rana, who represents Thana Bhawan assembly segment in Shamli district. He was on his way from the BJP office in Lucknow when the cops arrested him.

suresh-rana_350_092013054306This is the first political arrest in Muzaffarnagar riots case after non-bailable warrants were issued against 16 leaders from BJP, BSP, Congress and others 72 hours ago.

Rana was booked under sections 188 (knowingly disobeying orders to maintain public order), 153 A (promoting enmity between groups on the basis of religion) 353 (provoking with intent to cause riots) and 435 (damage to property) of IPC and criminal law amendment act.

The BJP has protested against Rana’s arrest and burnt the effigy of CM Akhilesh Yadav. BJP President Rajnath Singh will visit Muzaffarnagar tomorrow, which may charge up the atmosphere in the region. The deadly riots in Muzaffarnagar region had left 48 people dead, over one hundred injured and thousands homeless.

Latest Update: Another BJP MLA Sangeet Som has surrendered in Meerut. He was accused of uploading a forged video on Facebook, which triggered the riots.
