The incident occurred on the Vesova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro route. One person died and seven were injured when a slab collapsed at the under-construction metro bridge near Hotel Leela.

While administration is claiming the rain behind the incident, the quality of material used for the construction is under the scanner. Meanwhile, the administration’s claim could not be ignored as the rain created havoc in the city since Monday.

The mishap was severely criticized on lieu of the negligence on the part of the persons undertaking the construction to take proper care. People have raised question regarding usage of quality material.

The state government announced in June that the Mumbai Metro Railway project has been delayed by eight months and is expected to be operational by March 2013 but if these type mishaps will continue, it may not be ready till this expected time.
