TNI Bureau: A routine courtesy visit to Lok Bhavan took an unexpected turn on Thursday after two senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers were allegedly removed from the premises under controversial circumstances, sparking demands for an inquiry.
The officers were part of an official delegation accompanying the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PCCIT), Odisha, for a scheduled meeting with the Governor. Despite prior coordination, the visit reportedly descended into confusion and confrontation.
In a formal communication to the Governor’s Secretariat, PCCIT Dr. D. Sudhakara Rao has raised serious concerns over the conduct of security personnel and the ADC (Police), seeking a detailed investigation into the incident.
As per the account presented in the letter, the officers were waiting at an assigned location within Lok Bhavan after informing concerned officials, including the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and the ADC (Navy). However, they were allegedly asked to leave and subsequently escorted out.
Matters escalated when the officers were reportedly taken to Capital Police Station in a police vehicle, following directions from the ADC (Police). The episode has raised questions over standard operating procedures and coordination within the Governor’s office.
Dr. Rao has termed the incident “deeply disturbing,” noting that the officers were discharging official responsibilities under his instructions. He also highlighted the apparent inconsistency in treatment, as other accompanying staff were not subjected to similar action.
The communication further refutes claims made during the incident regarding the officers’ sobriety, stating that these allegations were found to be baseless upon verification at the police station.
Calling the episode a blow to the dignity of senior officials, the PCCIT has cautioned that such actions could adversely impact institutional trust. He has urged the authorities to conduct a fair inquiry, establish accountability, and ensure that similar situations are avoided in the future.
