TNI Bureau: Iran has sharply condemned the United States after the reported destruction of its naval vessel IRIS Dena, describing the incident as a grave act of aggression and a violation of international norms.
Reacting to the development, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, accused Washington of committing an “atrocity at sea.” In a post on social media, he said the attack occurred nearly 2,000 miles away from Iran’s coastline, raising serious concerns about the legality and intent behind the strike.
He called IRIS Dena, “a Guest of Indian Navy”, which was attacked by the US Submarine in the Indian Ocean.
According to Iranian authorities, the warship IRIS Dena had been returning from a naval exercise in India when it was targeted. The incident reportedly led to heavy casualties among Iranian sailors, triggering outrage in Tehran. At least 87 Sailors died and many went missing after the attack.
Araghchi warned that the US action sets a dangerous precedent and could further inflame tensions in an already volatile Middle East. He emphasized that targeting a naval vessel in international waters undermines maritime security and global stability.
Iran has signalled that it reserves the right to respond to what it calls unlawful aggression. As tensions rise between Tehran and Washington, the incident threatens to deepen the conflict and push the region closer to a wider confrontation.
