TNI Bureau: A two-day international seminar on the theme “Society in the 21st Century: Structure, Inequality and Sustainable Future” was inaugurated at Maa Manikeswari University, Bhawanipatna, by the Department of Sociology.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nivedita Nath, in her inaugural address, said that in the 21st century, in-depth research is essential to understand social inequalities and structural transformations. She urged researchers to engage more actively in society-oriented studies.
The Head of the Department of Sociology, Dr. Birendra Suna, served as the Convener of the seminar, while Assistant Professor Ashwini Gomango conducted the proceedings.
Chief Guest Sanjay Kumar Das, an IT expert from the United States, spoke about the relationship between technology and society. He emphasized the importance of digital inclusion for achieving a sustainable future.
Guest of Honour Professor Roland Hardenberg from the Frobenius Institute, Germany, discussed social and cultural structures and inequality in a global context. Another Guest of Honour, Professor Peter Berger from the University of Groningen, Netherlands, shared his views on religion, culture and the changing nature of society.
Professor Dipti Ranjan Sahu, President of the Indian Sociological Society, highlighted the role of sociology and research in building an egalitarian society. Professor Arvind Ansari of Jamia Millia Islamia University spoke on social justice and the role of education, while Associate Professor Rajkishore Mahana shared insights on society and public health.
Deputy Registrar Major Dr. Jayadev Sahu emphasized that social awareness can be strengthened through language and literature. Keynote speaker Professor Rabindra Garada from Utkal University presented an analysis of emerging dimensions of social change and inequality in the 21st century.
Assistant Professor Dr. Priyaranjan Behera delivered the vote of thanks. The seminar was organized with the support of Assistant Professors Dr. Subal Tandi, Dr. Rojalin Behera, Mr. Arif Raza, along with research scholars and students of the Department of Sociology.
