TNI Bureau: In a high-stakes Super Eight Group 1 match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, India clinched a thrilling victory over West Indies to secure a spot in the T20 World Cup semifinals. After West Indies scored 195/4 in 20 overs, Indians knew they had to respond with intent and composure. Samson rose spectacularly to the occasion, scoring 97* off just 50 balls in a masterful display of power and timing, guiding India towards the target with confidence. Backed by useful contributions down the order, India reached 199/5 in 19.2 overs, sealing a memorable 5-wicket win with four balls to spare.

West Indies’ total was built on solid performances at the top, putting pressure on India early. But India’s chase was anchored by Samson’s aggressive yet calculated knock, which kept the required run rate in check and allowed other batters to play around him.

The victory not only booked India’s place in the semifinals — it also avenged past T20 World Cup setbacks and demonstrated India’s depth and resilience under pressure. With momentum firmly back in their favour, India now head into the knockout stage as serious contenders for the title. They will take on England in the second semifinal on March 5.
