ICC Women’s World Cup may be shifted out of India

Date:

TNI Bureau: The Women’s World Cup 2013 is in complete trouble, thanks to the escalation of tension between India and Pakistan at the LoC. After the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) refused to hold the matches, the ICC/BCCI may not have any option but to postpone the world cup or shift the venue to any other country, most probably South Africa.

The Women’s World Cup was supposed to be held in Mumbai. However, with the Shiv Sena taking a tough stand on Pakistani players, which resulted in the exit of nine Pakistani Hockey players from the HIL, the BCCI finds itself in a dillema.

While Kolkata and Bangalore are considered as the alternate venues, it’s highly unlikely that Pakistani team will get the visa on time. They had been granted the visa for Mumbai only. The ICC Women’s World Cup is scheuled to be held on January 31 – February 17, 2013.
