Bhubaneswar: The Union government on Sunday officially announced the list of Padma Awards for 2026, confirming that four persons from Odisha will receive Padma Shri honours this year.
Santhali author Charan Hembram has been selected for his contribution to literature and education. Mahendra Kumar Mishra has also been chosen in the field of literature and education. Folk theatre artist Simanchal Patro has been honoured for his work in Sakhi Nata, while Sarat Kumar Patra has been selected for his contribution to the arts. All four awardees are recipients of the Padma Shri.
According to the official press note, a total of 131 Padma Awards will be conferred in 2026, including five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri awards. The list includes 19 women awardees, six foreign nationals or overseas Indians, and 16 posthumous honours.
