First ever Sambalpuri Commercial Movie ‘Alar’ Announced

By Himanshu Guru: ‘Alar…the Orphan’, the first ever commercial movie in Sambalpuri language was announced today in Balangir. The whole unit of the film was present in the Press meet where the Litu Mohanty directed film was declared.

‘Alar’ means orphan. The Shyama Movies produced film is all about the mission of an orphan boy, played by Shyam Kumar, to wipe out the darkness sowed by the negative characters of the film in the backdrop of a rural village of Odisha. After ‘Bhukha’ and ‘Ulgulan’ this is the third Sambalpuri language film, but as the previous two are art-genre films, ‘Alar’ is claimed as the first ever commercial film in this vernacular language of Western Odisha.

‘Kebhe nai mare, kebhe nai jhare, tor mor prem kahani’! (The saga of our romance will remain forever) Singing of these beautiful lines by Jatindra Pradhan during the event made everyone glad and the lyric was hummed by many till the end.

While the film is produced and written by Manabhanjan Nayak, the songs are penned by Kali Panigrahi, Dr. Nirmal Nayak, Ratan Pujari and Jatindra Pradhan, all the veterans of Sambalpuri Music world. Famous Odia singers like T. Shourie, Pankaj Jaal, Naba Mahattam, Sanju and Asimaa Panda have sung the tracks.

While Cuttack diva Dimple is playing the character ‘Kunmoon’, the female lead of the film opposite the orphan, Minaxi from Kolkata is playing the character of a village girl. Other artists in the film are – Prithviraj Nayak, Ghasiram Mishra, Jagadananda Chhuria, comedian Bindu, Krushna Chandra Acharya, Sri Radha, Tushmita, Narendra Behera, Deepak, Abhisek, Puru, Aswini Panda, Uma, Murli Pati and child artists Debesh and Titu.

Alar’s music has been scored by Shriram Luhar, while choreography is by Saran Bhaster from Chennai and action shots will be composed by Speed Mohan from the South Indian Film. Jay Pradhan from Mumbai is the Director of Photography (DOP); Camera will be rolled by Gopal Pradhan and Kedar. Wardrobe will be done by Subash Ray and the make-up artist will be Tuku and Satya Patara. Co-producers Akash Nishad and Nihar Sahu will execute the production and Art Department will be headed by Prakash Pradhan. Tukuna is the production Manager of the film.

‘Alar’ unit visited the famous Samaleswari temple of Balangir in the morning for the blessings of the deity. The film will be shot at different picturesque locations of western Odisha and the shooting will be started from 16th of this month as per the unit. ‘Alar’ is scheduled to release somewhere in coming April this year.
