Mamata secured 58,812 votes while Suvendu Adhikari got 73,917 votes.

In Nandigram too in 2021, Mamata had lost to the same Suvendu Adhikari, once her close associate. Mamata made a comeback in Bhabanipur bypoll as her party had received a massive mandate. However, 2026 won’t be easy for her, as the saffron surge in Bengal, has already sunk TMC.

With Mamata’s exit, the TMC, which is likely to win 80 seats in West Bengal Assembly, will have a tough time to play the role of an Opposition without a strong leader.
