EC announces Poll Schedule for Five States

Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath today announced poll schedule for five states – Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram. The election will be held between November 11 and December 4 this year. Counting of votes will be held on December 8 for all the five states.

Electronic-Voting-Machine1Mr. Sampath said naxal-affected Chhattisgarh will vote first in two phases for its 90 Assembly seats on November 11 and 19.

Election to the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh Assembly will be held on November 25.

Rajasthan, with 200 Assembly seats, will vote on December 1.

Delhi and Mizoram will vote on December 4. The Delhi Assembly has 70 seats while the Mizoram Assembly has 40 seats.

Besides these 5 states, by-elections will be held for an assembly seat each in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu on December 4.

For the first time in the Indian democracy, “None of the above” button in the Electronic Voting Machine will be used to reject all candidates in these elections.

Over 11 crore people are eligible to vote in these five state, the election commission said, the model code of conduct of elections comes into effect from today.
