TNI Bureau: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated and laid foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over ₹200 crore at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, reinforcing the institute’s role in Odisha’s and India’s development.
The Minister inaugurated a ₹35-crore Indoor Sports Complex equipped with modern badminton courts, a multi-purpose hall and cultural activity spaces. He also laid foundation stones for new projects valued at around ₹180 crore, which include a Civil Engineering Department building, a 500-bed girls’ hostel and a guest house.
Addressing students and faculty, Pradhan said the expanded infrastructure would create better opportunities for students to excel in academics, sports and innovation. He described NIT Rourkela as a major centre of talent and research contributing to national growth.
Highlighting the institute’s innovation ecosystem, the Minister praised NIT Rourkela alumni-led startup Koratia Technology for supplying indigenously developed underwater robotic systems to the Indian Navy, calling it a strong example of the institute’s contribution to nation-building.
Pradhan also underlined the combined importance of NIT Rourkela and the Rourkela Steel Plant in driving regional development. With the Steel Plant’s expansion planned by 2030, he said both institutions would play a crucial role in supporting India’s future industrial and technological growth.
