Debashish Exit – Political Warfare & Internal Crisis

Date:

TNI Bureau: Debashish Samantaray’s decision to quit the BJD and join BJP, is more than just another political defection. It underlines the growing unease within a party once known for discipline, stability and organisational cohesion. By openly blaming VK Pandian’s influence for his sidelining, Debashish has reignited questions over centralisation of power within the BJD and the shrinking space for senior leaders and dissenting voices.

At the same time, his exit is also widely seen as linked to personal political and business interests, with his remarks attempting to shape a larger political narrative that may or may not resonate with the public.

The BJP, with leaders like Dharmendra Pradhan playing a key role, appears determined to capitalise on the visible cracks within the regional party.

Meanwhile, Odisha continues to grapple with issues like law and order concerns, power outages, unemployment and border disputes. Although the BJD is trying to corner the government on these matters, the opposition still appears politically fragile and unable to convert public discontent into strong momentum.
