In a big development at midnight, the Jodhpur Police arrested spiritual guru and self-styled godman Asaram Bapu at his Indore Ashram. The Indore Police helped them to leave the Ashram with Asaram by placing barricades. Asaram will be questioned in connection with the sexual assault charges levelled by a 15-year-old girl.

Although the FIR was lodged more than 11 days ago, the Jodhpur police failed to take action on time. The issue was taken up by the media very strongly despite the assault on the reporters by Asaram’s supporters. Asaram Bapu tried his best to evade arrest and moved from Madhya Pradesh to Gujarat many times. However, he failed to find a safe refuge anywhere.

There was a high drama at the Indore Ashram on Saturday night. Asaram and his followers refused to cooperate with the Jodhpur police. His lawyer even claimed that the questioning will take place on Sunday morning. However, the godman was arrested after long questioning.

The Indore Police deployed around 800 personnel to maintain law and order due to the presence of thousands of Asaram’s supporters. Finally, the Jodhpur Police managed to get his custody and left with him in seven vehicles. He will be taken to Jodhpur for further questioning. Heavy security deployment has been made in Jodhpur to prevent any untoward incident.
