Brahmapur Assault Case: Prime Accused Injured in Police Encounter

TNI Bureau: The main accused in the sensational Giri Road assault case, Mufates Sahu alias Mukesh, was critically injured during a late-night police encounter near Tamana Ghat in Brahmapur.

According to police sources, a special operation was carried out in the Tamana Ghat area after police received specific information about the accused’s whereabouts. During the operation, Mukesh allegedly opened fire at the police team while trying to escape. The police retaliated in self-defense, following which he sustained multiple bullet injuries.

Reports said two bullets hit his right leg, while one bullet struck his left leg and another hit his hand. He was immediately rescued and shifted to hospital for treatment. His condition is stated to be critical.

Mukesh had been absconding since May 18 after allegedly attacking a youth identified as Umesh on Giri Road along with his associates. The brutal assault, which was captured on camera and widely circulated on social media, triggered widespread public outrage across Brahmapur.

Police said the accused has more than nine criminal cases registered against him at Baidyanathpur, Gopalpur and Gosaninugaon police stations. The cases include charges related to attempt to murder, dacoity, extortion and illegal arms dealing.

Meanwhile, two other accused in the case, identified as Raj Malhotra and Lingaraj Samal, have already been arrested and produced before the court. Further investigation into the case is underway.
