Berhampur Violence: Accused Injured in Police Encounter

Date:

TNI Bureau: Berhampur witnessed yet another police encounter after the prime accused in the brutal sword attack on Mangala Behera, sustained bullet injuries during a late-night police operation.

The injured accused, identified as Jagannath Sahu alias Jaga, was allegedly involved in the violent attack on Mangala Behera at Ambika Nagar under Bada Bazar police limits on Saturday night. The assault, reportedly carried out with sharp weapons along with another accused, Balia, was captured on camera and widely circulated on social media, triggering panic among residents.

According to police sources, a special team conducted a raid at Bauri Sukunda following credible inputs about Jaga’s whereabouts. During the operation, the accused allegedly hurled bombs at police personnel while attempting to escape. In retaliation, police opened fire, injuring him.

Jaga was later admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

This is the third police encounter reported in Berhampur in recent weeks, underscoring the police’s intensified crackdown on criminal activities. However, despite repeated encounters and heightened policing, the Silk City continues to remain tense amid a surge in violent crimes.

Police sources indicated that stricter action could follow if hardened criminals continue to challenge law enforcement agencies.
