TNI Bureau: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has replaced Bangladesh with Scotland at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to send its team to India due to security concerns.
The decision was taken following an emergency ICC board meeting, where a clear majority voted in favour of a replacement after Bangladesh insisted on shifting their matches out of India. The ICC said altering the schedule so close to the tournament, which begins on February 7, was not feasible and could set an unhealthy precedent.
Bangladesh was scheduled to play its group matches in Kolkata and Mumbai, fixtures that will now be played by Scotland. The ICC has also rejected Bangladesh’s concerns linking the issue to the release of Mustafizur Rahman from IPL duty, stating it had no bearing on the tournament’s security framework.
The BCB has accused the ICC of double standards and indicated it may approach the ICC’s Dispute Resolution Committee.
