Athlete Pinki Pramanik held on “Rape” Charges

TNI Bureau: Asian Games Gold Medalist Pinki Pramanik was arrested by the police on “rape” charges. The complaint was filed by a woman, who alleged that Pinki is a male.

Pinki refused to go for a sex determination test at a government hospital. She would be produced in the court again today.

A woman in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, had alleged that Pinki is a male and “he” tortured and raped her. She also expressed fear for her life, saying Pinki had threatened to kill her.

According to the police, Pinki was taken to a private nursing home for a medical check-up initially, which confirmed that she is a male. However, she refused to undergo a second test at a government hospital and alleged conspiracy.

Pinki Pramanik had won a gold medal in 4×400 meters relay at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha (Qatar). She had also won a silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. She retired from Athletics three years and currently working as a Ticket Collector with the Eastern Railway.
