After Wangchuk was shifted to the hospital, Abhijeet Dipke, founding president of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), started an indefinite hunger strike and appealed to supporters to continue the protest.

Meantime, Wangchuk urged supporters to participate in a planned march to Parliament on July 20.

He started his hunger strike on June 28 on the twin issues of education and matters related to Ladakh.
