TNI Bureau: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Odisha government over the continued delay in holding students’ union elections and warned of statewide agitation if elections are not conducted by 2026.
The warning was issued at the inauguration of ABVP Odisha East Province’s 50th State Conference, held at the historic Raktatirtha Eram Gandhi Padia in Bhadrak district. ABVP leaders demanded that the state government immediately announce a clear date for students’ union elections, failing which the organisation would lead protests across the state.
ABVP leaders said the growing anger among students would not be suppressed and that the organisation would take the lead in channelising the agitation. They cautioned the government that if their demand is ignored, ABVP would be forced to intensify protests on the streets.
The conference saw participation of more than 550 student delegates from 23 organisational districts, ranging from Rairangpur to Rayagada. Over 150 ABVP workers from Bhadrak district were engaged in organising the event.
During the conference, ABVP passed three key resolutions related to education, social issues and public mobilisation. In its education resolution, the organisation alleged widespread corruption in the education sector, claiming that the very foundation of the system has weakened. ABVP placed several demands before the government, including transfer of college land in the name of respective colleges, reconstitution of governing bodies with the presence of non-political educationists, establishment of B.Ed colleges in the state, and scholarship support for dropout students.
ABVP also highlighted the need for dedicated Sports, Agriculture and Tribal Universities in Odisha and urged the government to give serious attention to these long-pending demands.
On social issues, ABVP passed a resolution expressing concern over drug trafficking and incidents of sexual violence in coastal areas, allegedly linked to illegal Bangladeshi infiltration. The organisation demanded strict action and called for the implementation of SIR in the state.
Through the conference, ABVP made it clear that unless the government responds promptly to students’ issues—especially the conduct of students’ union elections—the organisation will escalate its movement across Odisha.
