India votes in Favour of Anti-Lanka UN Resolution

The US-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka on “alleged human rights violations of Tamils” was passed at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva with support of 25 member countries. India voted in favour of the resolution but failed to move any amendment demanded by DMK and other groups in Tamil Nadu.

While 13 countries opposed the resolution, 8 abstained from voting at the 22nd session of the UN Human Rights Council meeting today. The resolution was tabled by US ambassador Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe, with co-sponsors including Austria, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway and Britain

India expressed deep concern over Sri Lankan Tamil issue. However, it could not satisfy the DMK, which has withdrawn its support from Congress-led UPA.
