Australia slump to Innings Defeat in Hyderabad Test

Date:

After the eight-wicket loss in Chennai, the Kangaroos slumped to a humiliating innings defeat in Hyderabad to hand over a 2-0 lead to India in the four-test match series. Indian spinners ruled the roost on Day 4 of the Test match to wreck havoc in the Australian batting line-up.

Resuming from the overnight score of 74/2, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals and bowled out for 131 in the end and lost by an innings and 135 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin turned out to be the nemesis of the Kangaroos, as he claimed five wickets. Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets and carried out a brilliant run-out. Ishant Sharma took one wicket.

For Australia, Ed Cowan made 44, while David Warner scored 26. Other batsmen failed to stand up to the quality Indian spin attack. Cheteshwar Pujara was declared ‘Man of the Match’ for his brilliant double hundred. Australia had scored 237/9 in the first innings. India made 503 in the only innings that it batted.

It was MS Dhoni’s 22nd Test victory. He surpassed the record set by Sourav Ganguly and emerged as the most successful Indian captain in Tests. Also, this is the first time in the history of Test cricket a team has lost by an innings after declaring in their first innings. Australia lost by an innings for the first time in two years.
