Pakistan Factory Fires: Death Toll rises to 314

Date:

TNI Bureau: The death toll in the factory fires that had caused the massive damage in two major cities of Pakistan rose to 314. The number could increase further as the rescue operations are still on in both the sites.

The massive fire at a garment factory in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi has killed at least 289 people, while 25 casualties reported from the factory in the eastern city of Lahore on Tuesday night, confirmed Pakistani authorities on Wednesday.

Most of the deaths were caused by the suffocation as people in the basement were unable to escape after the fire broke out in a garment factory in Karachi. Officials said that the factories did not have emergency exits and basic safety equipments such as alarms and sprinklers.

Pakistani Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has expressed his grief over the deaths.
