Unable to face strong opposition from the Congress and BJP over the false statements made by Revenue Minister Surjya Narayan Mohapatra regarding the Central assistance, the ruling BJD forced the adjournment of Odisha Assembly for an indefinite period.
Earlier, the Congress MLAs created ruckus inside the Assembly and Debi Prasad Chand even broke the mic of Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat. He was immediately suspended from the Assembly, but refused to move out of the House.

There was a pandemonium in the House and at one time, violent clashes were feared. The Congress refused to relent and demanded the resignation of Surjya Narayan Patro. There was an unprecedented in the Visitors’ Gallery too when some people shouted slogans and one of them tried to jump into the floor of the House.
Later, the ruling party moved a motion to adjourn the House, which was accepted by the Speaker. The Congress MLAs met the Governor to protest against the Speaker’s decision to adjourn the House sine die.
The ruling party accused the Opposition of non-cooperation, while the Congress blamed the BJD of trying to run away from the debate. The Congress MLAs held a silent protest near the Gandhi statue inside the Assembly premises.
