TNI Bureau: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, accusing it of using excessive force against students protesting across the country and failing to honour its assurances.

In a strongly worded post on X, Rahul Gandhi alleged that “the entire system has become lethal against students.” Referring to reports from Bihar, he claimed that students participating in protests were fired upon with AK-47 rifles, while hundreds were arrested and booked under FIRs. Meanwhile, the report has been confirmed and the cop under scrutiny, STF Personnel Abhishek Patel, has been suspended.

Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi asked what had happened to the government’s promise that no FIRs would be lodged against students and that those detained would be released. Instead, he alleged, the government had responded with “deadly attacks and brutality.”

Drawing parallels between different states, the Congress leader said, “Pellet guns in Delhi and AK-47 in Bihar. Whether it is Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar or Delhi, the pattern is the same.” He accused the government of suppressing students’ voices rather than addressing their concerns.

Rahul Gandhi further alleged that the Centre had repeatedly failed to keep its promises, describing the government as one that “backs out of its own words” and seeks to silence dissent instead of pursuing meaningful reforms.

Calling for accountability, Gandhi urged Prime Minister Modi to apologise to the country’s students and take action against those responsible for the alleged attacks on protesters, rather than prosecuting the students themselves.
