TNI Bureau: TMC MLA Dilip Mondal was arrested by the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) from Odisha’s Puri in connection with a threat and intimidation case after remaining absconding for several weeks.
Police said Mondal had been evading arrest since allegations emerged accusing him of threatening political rivals. Earlier on May 14, investigators had carried out raids at two properties linked to the MLA in the Pailan area as part of the probe.
The development comes shortly after the arrest of his son, Arghya Mondal, and five others from the Bakkhali-Fraserganj area in South 24 Parganas on May 18 over alleged possession of illegal firearms. Police alleged that the group had been threatening BJP workers and supporters in the region.
Authorities had earlier declared Dilip Mondal absconding while intensifying efforts to trace him. Further investigation into the case is underway.
