Hotels, Restaurants Flag LPG Supply Disruption; Odisha Body Writes to Centre

Date:

TNI Bureau: The Hotel & Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) has urged the Union government to immediately restore the supply of commercial LPG cylinders to hotels and restaurants, warning that continued disruption could severely affect the hospitality sector.

In a memorandum dated March 10 addressed to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the association highlighted that many metropolitan cities are witnessing restrictions and stoppages in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders.

According to the letter, hotels and restaurants rely heavily on uninterrupted LPG supply for daily kitchen operations, and the sudden shortage has already begun affecting food preparation and services.

The association cautioned that if the situation continues, it could lead to closure of hotel operations, cancellation of bookings, and inconvenience for tourists and visitors. It also stressed that the hospitality industry plays a vital role in India’s tourism ecosystem by generating employment, supporting allied sectors such as transport and food supply chains, and contributing to state revenues.

HRAO further warned that disruptions in essential services like LPG supply could damage the reputation of tourist destinations and undermine the country’s efforts to promote tourism.

Seeking urgent intervention, the association appealed to the Centre to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply to hotels and restaurants across the country to prevent operational disruptions and protect the tourism and hospitality sector.
