TNI Bureau: Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal shared an emotional post mourning the death of his 49-year-old son, Agnivesh, who passed away in the United States following a tragic skiing accident. Agnivesh died after suffering a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
According to the family, Agnivesh had gone skiing in the US with a friend, during which he met with an accident. Though his condition had initially shown signs of improvement, he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest, leading to his untimely demise.
In a deeply moving message, Anil Agarwal described the day as the most painful of his life, saying that there is no greater sorrow than a father carrying his son’s bier. He remembered Agnivesh not only as his son but also as his closest friend, pride, and entire world, and said the family is completely shattered by the loss.
Born on June 3, 1976, in Patna, Agnivesh came from a middle-class family background. He studied at Mayo College, Ajmer, and was known for his strong personality and wide-ranging talents. He excelled in boxing, was passionate about horse riding, and was also an accomplished musician.
In his professional life, Agnivesh made a significant mark in the business world. He was instrumental in building Fujairah Gold and served as Chairman of Hindustan Zinc. Despite his achievements, Anil Agarwal said his son remained simple, grounded, and closely connected to friends and colleagues.
Agnivesh was remembered as cheerful, warm-hearted, and deeply humane. He shared a close bond with his family and was especially protective of his sister, Priya. His father noted that Agnivesh firmly believed in India’s potential and often spoke about making the country self-reliant.
Reiterating a long-held commitment, Anil Agarwal said the family would continue to dedicate more than 75 per cent of their wealth to social causes, including education, ensuring no child goes hungry, women’s empowerment, and employment opportunities for youth. He pledged to live a simpler life and devote himself fully to fulfilling these goals.
Expressing gratitude to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers, the family said that while Agnivesh is no longer physically present, his dreams and values will continue to live on through the work they carry forward in his memory.
