Bhubaneswar: Three persons from Odisha are among those expected to receive Padma Awards in 2026, according to sources, ahead of the official Republic Day announcement.
The three awardees from the state have been recognised for their work in literature, education and traditional theatre, reflecting long years of contribution at the grassroots level.
Santhali writer Charan Hembram from Odisha is said to be selected for the Padma Shri for his contribution to Santhali literature. Mahendra Kumar Mishra, also from Odisha, is believed to be chosen for his work in the field of literature and education. Folk theatre artist Simanchal Patro, known for his work in Sakhi Nata, is the third awardee from the state.
Sources said the provisional list of Padma Awards this year includes individuals from different parts of the country, including remote and underserved regions.
