West Bengal Minister heckled in Delhi, Mamata Furious

Date:

Soon after her Finance Minister Amit Mitra was heckled by the CPI-M and SFI activists in New Delhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee took on the Left Front and vowed not to surrender before hooliganism. As a result, the Trinamool Congress cadres attacked the CPI-M offices elsewhere in the state.

Mamata, who too faced the protest from the Left activists in Delhi, had cancelled the meeting with PM Dr. Manmohan Singh. She was in Delhi to seek assistance for West Bengal, but the rucks occurred outside the Planning Commission building when she and her Ministers were heckled by the SFI activists, who were protesting the death of student leader Sudipto Gupta in police custody in West Bengal.

Amit Mitra was attacked from all sides. His shirt was torn off. He was reportedly slapped and punched and had to be admitted to the AIIMS later after complaining of chest pain. The BJP tried to add fuel to the fire by coming out in support of Mamata Banerjee and blaming the Centre for the security lapse, which led to the attack on TMC leaders.
