World Intellectual Property Day is being observed today across the globe to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life. It is held annually on 26 April under the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since 2000.

It is also observed to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe.
26th April was chosen as the date for World Intellectual Property Day, because, on this day in 1970, the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization came into force.
The theme of “World Intellectual Property Day, 2013” is “Creativity – The Next Generation”.
