Three New Additional Judges of Orissa HC take Oath

Three additional judges of Orissa High Court were sworn-in at a function in the court premises today. Chief Justice C Nagappan administered oath of office to Justices Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, Biswajit Mohanty and Akshaya Kumar Rath.

Orissa-High-CourtWith the newly appointed judges, the number of the Orissa High Court judges increased to 15. As per the suggestion of the National Law Commission, the High Court requires at least 28 judges. However, the state government has sanctioned 22 posts.

The decision was taken to hear the pending cases as soon as possible. As of now, around 2.5 lakh cases are pending in the court for disposal.
