Terror Attack in Srinagar: 5 CRPF Jawans Killed

In yet another daring attack, the terrorists launched a major offensive on a CRPF camp in Bemina area of Srinagar, killing 5 CRPF jawans and injuring seven others. Two terrorists were also gunned down. The gunbattle still continues, as some terrorists are reportedly holed up in the area.

The attack took place near a Public School. Since the school was closed, the children had a lucky escape. This is the deadliest attack in Jammu & Kashmir in more than three years, which came in the wake of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s demand for the withdrawal of AFSPA (Armed Force Special Power Act).

The terrorists reportedly used grenades and mortars to target the CRPF camp. Additional forces and bomb disposal squads have been rushed to the spot. The situation in the Kashmir Valley has been tense after the hanging of Afzal Guru in Tihar Jail. A high alert has been issued across the valley following the terror attack.

The Home Ministry has confirmed that the terrorists had infiltrated from Pakistan and that they were not locals. The militants came under the disguise of cricket players and carried weapons inside their cricket bags. Later, Hizbul Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attacks.
