The protests and violence erupted on Thursday night. The protesters burnt down a forest bungalow at Takdha, which was built for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a visit to Darjeeling on January 9 this year. Even a truck and a SUV were torched at Mongpo and police booths at Ranglirangliyat and Rangamancha were set ablaze on Thursday night.

Karbi AnglongTension intensified in Assam where the clamour is now growing for a separate Karbi Anglong council after Bodoland. The protesters are now demanding for a new state after Congress decided the fate of Telangana giving its green signal for another state Telangana. The situation in Karbi Anglong district remained tense after two people reportedly died in violence. The protesters destroyed the railway tracks near the district headquarters at the Diphu railway station for which the train services were affected across the state. Later, the army conducted a flag march to bring the situation under control.

The division of Andhra Pradesh into two states now raised serious questions, whether the CWC took the decision to address people’s aspirations or Congress created a situation for fresh disputes?
