TNI Bureau: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay secured a decisive victory in Wednesday’s floor test, with 144 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) endorsing his leadership in the 234-seat Assembly. This outcome comfortably affirmed his majority. The confidence motion passed with 22 opposing votes and 5 abstentions.
This successful vote of confidence significantly bolsters the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam administration, which garnered support from the Congress, CPI(M), VCK, IUML, and a splinter group of the AIADMK. At least 25 out of 47 AIADMK MLAs, sided with Vijay. The DMK chose to abstain from the vote and walked out during the session.
The political landscape surrounding this floor test became particularly noteworthy due to apparent divisions within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. A number of its MLAs, in defiance of their party’s leadership, cast their votes in favor of the government headed by Chief Minister Vijay.
