Date:

TNI bureau: Following a historic victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where the team secured their third title and became the first team to win back to back, the Indian cricket team finds itself in an unexpected transition. While their status as global kings remains secured, their recent form on foreign soil has sent shockwaves through the cricketing fraternity.

In March, the Indian cricket team won the 2026 T20 World Cup. This was their third World Cup title, making India the most successful team in T20 history. But today the team facing a major crisis. The world champions are suffering big defeats on their European tour.

Reportedly, the trouble started in Ireland where India lost both matches in a shocking 2-0 series defeat. Shockingly this was the first time Ireland had ever beaten India in the game. Later the struggles deepened upon the team’s arrival in England. The first match was washed out by rain. After that England won the next three matches in a row. Following a heavy 9-wicket loss in Bristol, England now leads the series 3-0 with only one match left in Southampton.

The downturn has triggered an immediate response from the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI). Secretary Devajit Saikia has stated that once the tour concludes, there will be a mandatory performance review of the players along with the coaching staff, led by head coach Gautam Gambhir will be conducted.

According to sources, India is going through a huge transition phase right now. Legendary players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli have retired from T20 cricket. Now very young and inexperienced players are playing in their place. These young players are finding it very hard to play in the cold and windy atmosphere in Europe. But with proper guidance and coaching they will be able to adapt to it very soon.

Lastly, with three T20 World Cup titles (2007, 2024, 2026), India officially is the most successful nation in the format now, leaving England and West Indies behind (two titles each). However, the recent losses to Ireland and England is a stark reminder that the new generation of Indian cricketers still has a lot to learn before they can win matches abroad.
