TNI Bureau: West Bengal witnessed a historic political transition as BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of the State. He was administered the oath by the State Governor, RN Ravi.
BJP Leaders Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, Nitish Pramanik also took oath as Cabinet Ministers.
The grand swearing-in ceremony was held at Kolkata’s iconic Brigade Parade Ground, marking a new chapter in the State’s political landscape.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, along with thousands of supporters and senior national leaders of the NDA.
Adhikari brings decades of legislative and administrative experience to the office. He was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Nandigram in 2016 and 2021, and currently represents Bhabanipur since 2026.
Previously he was elected from Kanthi Dakshin in 2005, and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamluk in 2009, and 2014.
In the Government of West Bengal, he held key portfolios as Minister of Transport from 2016 to 2020, and Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources from 2018 to 2020.
In his first address as Chief Minister, Adhikari pledged to prioritize development, good governance, and public welfare. He assured citizens that restoring law and order, ensuring women’s safety, generating employment, and accelerating infrastructure growth would be the cornerstones of his government.
