Suryanelli Gangrape Accused Arrested

TNI Bureau: Key accused in the Suryanelli gangrape case, SS Dharmarajan, who had made sensational revelation that Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson PJ Kurien was involved in the rape case, has been taken into custody by Kerala police on Friday. He was caught from an undisclosed location in Karnataka and will be forwarded to the special court today.

Dharmarajan was absconding since 2005 after he was granted bail. He had claimed that Kurien was involved in the 1996 gangrape case on Monday while speaking to a local TV channel in Mysore.

The accused had revealed that entire episode of the gangrape. He had said that he had taken Kurien to Kumuli, where the victim was kept and raped.

He had also revealed that police did not record Kurien’s name in the case, even the then investigating officer Sibi Matthews had asked him not to reveal Kurien’s involvement.

The teenage girl was gangraped by over 42 men in 1996 in Suryanelli. The victim sought fresh probe against Kurien, who was given clean chit by the Supreme Court.
