Supreme Court gets Tough on VIP Security

Date:

TNI Bureau: The Supreme Court took a strong view of the largescale deployment of police personnel in VIP security and noted that they should be used to protect the women in the country. A bench headed by Justice GS Singhvi said there is no need to give unprecedented security cover to the VIPs, including the judges.

The apex court extended the deadine till Monday for the states to file replies on the issue of VIP security. The centre and states have been asked to file affidavits on the number of policemen deployed for VIP security, names of the VIPs who get the security and the expenses incurred.

The apex court strongly believes that there is a need for increasing the security for women by giving them further protection. The court pointed to the recent statement of Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit that women no longer feel themselves safe in the current situation.
