Spain had lost to Japan 1-0 in the first match. Their fortune did not change, as they lost to lowly-ranked Honduras 1-0 in the second match.
After winning two major titles in the last two years, Spain was considered as the most favourite team to win the London 2012 gold medal. However, that did not happen.
