According to sources, the incident occurred while the patient was resting on his bed when a part of the ceiling suddenly fell, hitting him on the head. The senior citizen sustained a head injury and started bleeding, triggering panic among other patients and attendants present in the crowded ward.

Allegations have surfaced that the injured patient was not given immediate medical attention after the incident. Instead of being promptly shifted to another bed or treated, he was reportedly made to lie on the floor for a prolonged period, leading to anger and outrage among attendants and the public.

An attendant of the injured patient alleged that despite the seriousness of the injury, doctors did not attend to him for over two hours. “My father was lying in a pool of blood. We requested everyone to stop arguing and focus on treatment, but even then his wounds were not stitched for a long time,” the attendant said.

The incident has once again highlighted the poor condition of the old wards at SCB Medical College and Hospital, one of the oldest and busiest healthcare institutions in the state, where patients continue to be treated amid longstanding safety concerns.

Attempts to contact SCB Medical College authorities for an official response were unsuccessful, as no statement had been issued till the filing of this report. The incident has led to renewed demands for immediate repairs, better maintenance of hospital infrastructure, and accountability to ensure the safety and dignity of patients.
