TNI Bureau: OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das condemned the sexual assault on a Tibetan minor in Mohana, Gajapati, calling it a disturbing collapse of law and order under the BJP government. He said such disgraceful crimes tarnish the state’s global image and wound the collective conscience, stressing that the safety and dignity of every woman must be an uncompromising priority and demanding strict action against those responsible.
A minor boy has been detained by police in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a seven-year-old Tibetan girl in the Chandragiri outpost area under Mohana police station in Odisha’s Gajapati district. Police confirmed that the accused is a minor Odia student from the same locality. A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, and the boy has been taken into custody for questioning.
According to police sources, the incident allegedly occurred when the child’s parents had gone to attend a family function. After being informed, the girl’s family approached the police and lodged a formal complaint, following which legal proceedings were initiated.
Authorities said the accused will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board as required by law. The girl is scheduled to be presented before the District Child Welfare Committee for care and support.
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer visited the area and supervised the investigation. Police also noted that the victim’s family had earlier supported the accused minor in education and financial matters, adding sensitivity to the case.
The Tibetan community in Chandragiri has been residing in the area since 1963, following their settlement by the Government of India and the Odisha government. Officials said this is reportedly the first such incident involving the community in the region. The investigation is ongoing, and police said all procedures will be followed strictly under the Juvenile Justice Act and child protection laws.
