Setback for Mamata, TMC’s No-Trust Notice Rejected

Date:

TNI Bureau: In a huge setback to her national political ambitions, Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has rejected the no-confidence motion moved by her party in the House.

The Speaker noted that the TMC did not have required support to move the no-confidence motion. Interestingly, many political parties did not back the TMC’s move for the no-trust motion, as they felt it was completely irrelevant. Only a few BJD MPs supported it.

The BJP, Left and other parties have sought a debate on FDI in Retail under Rule 184, which entails voting. However, the government is reluctant for a voting, as it knew that the Samajwadi Party, DMK and Trinamool Congress may vote against the FDI. The BJP said that the Opposition should be allowed to present its views in the Parliament.
