TNI Bureau: In a sharp reaction to the tragic fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday termed the episode “shocking” and raised serious questions over the state government’s handling of the situation.
Reacting to the deaths of multiple patients in the fire, Patnaik said he was deeply disturbed that such a tragedy could occur in a premier government hospital. He pointed out that the incident reflects glaring lapses in safety measures and emergency preparedness.
The BJD president further criticized the apparent lack of accountability, emphasizing that incidents of this magnitude cannot be brushed aside without fixing responsibility. He demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances that led to the fire and the resulting casualties.
Highlighting concerns over hospital infrastructure and management, Patnaik suggested that negligence at various levels may have contributed to the disaster. He stressed that those found guilty must face strict action to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
The SCB fire tragedy, which claimed several lives and left many injured, has triggered widespread outrage across Odisha. Political tensions have escalated, with opposition parties mounting pressure on the government over alleged lapses.
As the probe continues, Patnaik’s strong remarks have added momentum to demands for accountability, making the incident a major political flashpoint in the state.
